Keller Williams Southwest in Fort Bend Lifestyles- March Issue

In this month’s issue of Fort Bend Lifestyle magazine, we highlight Ross McEathron, Houston native and top producing agents. Ross
McEathron spent years in the video game/electronics business and went on to own a payphone
company. When he decided to sell the company and retire, he had no idea he was freeing himself up for
a second career. He and his wife acquired several rental properties during the market decline in 2009,
and that’s when it became clear that retirement wasn’t for him. “I started doing real estate and realized
it was probably something I should have been doing since I was in my 20s. It’s been one of those things
that you find to do that you love, so it doesn’t feel like work.”

As a former business owner, Ross knew how to run a business, but says of KW’s education and training,
“Everyone can make it through real estate school, which has nothing to do with real estate in the real
world. So, when you get out there, you know how to fill out a contract, you know the mechanics of it,
but you have no idea how to run the business. That’s where KW really kicks in, teaching you how to run
a business, how to control your expenses, to lead with revenue. Here, the top agents at our office teach
the new ones coming in. So, they’re getting to learn from the best in the business, instead of going out
to some random class. They have access to top leaders in the office.”

As a landlord, McEathron has his own experience with home buying, selling and renting, and
understands how to inspect homes and look for problems. He uses that knowledge to look for potential
problems prior to the final transaction and he enjoys brining people through the process. “I’m there
after the sale as well, if people have issues. They can call me about vendors, who to use, who not to
use.” It’s this experience and knowledge that really adds value to his service as a realtor.

As for why he chose KW, he states, “The culture here fits with my ideals. You’re an ambassador of KW
when you’re out in the field…so you need to exude that culture. And I think this office in particular, has
taken it to a whole new level.” He and his wife enjoy giving back and are involved in many local
activities, like being volunteers for the City of Sugar Land and supporting Fort Bend Child Advocates.
Indeed, KW has a long and rich history of giving back to their communities through their RED Day
(Renew, Energize, Donate) and other activities. It’s this culture of “Giving Where We Live” that helped
attract him to KW. “I was at that age where I could start to give back to my community.”

Ross also has other talents up his sleeve, such as his love for photography, which he’s been involved
with for 40 years. He was president of the Houston Camera Club for 3 years and brings that talent to his
real estate business, doing much of his own photography for marketing materials. He is also an avid
traveler and travel blogger.

Currently, Ross is part of the ALC (Agent Leadership Committee) where he says he’s always available to
help another agent. “Whether with marketing ideas or just helping them get off the ground, we just
share here. We have the attitude that it’s a big pool and there’s plenty of room for everybody.” At 65
years old, he still works almost 70 hours a week. “For the most part, I just get up every day because I love what I do.”
